Capital One is best known as one of the largest issuers of Visa and MasterCard credit cards in the US, but it also boasts a banking network of 900-plus branches in about half a dozen states (including New York and Texas) and the District of Columbia. Bolstered by its 2012 acquisition of ING Direct, the bank also offers online and direct banking. Capital One, which serves more than 50 million customers in the US, Canada, and the UK, also has units that offer auto financing, write home loans, sell insurance, and manage assets for institutional and high-net-worth clients.
